The „OrbitHerzchen“ - Ambassador for Children with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD)

Our „OrbitHerzchen“ went on its first journey in 2014, accompanying the German astronaut Alexander Gerst on his mission into space.

The achievements in astronautics and space technology have played a major role in saving children's lives. The technology has attributed the possibility and success in common operations for heart defects in children.  Yet, there is a lot more that needs to be done, such as funding medical research, that will help children with heart defects, and improving their life expectancies. With this project, Stiftung KinderHerz wants to draw attention to the challenges children with congenital heart defects face, and to address ways to fund pediatric heart research.
Although 1 percent of children are born with a heart defect, these young patients do not receive enough attention in the public sphere.

"OrbitHerzchen” is flying to space as the ambassador for their needs! In 2018 Alexander Gerst has been assigned a new mission traveling to the International Space Station, where he will fulfill the role of the space commander.
We are delighted and thankful that Stiftung KinderHerz will be once again part of this mission. For the Mission 2018 a new object is going to be created and designed by a well-respected artist.
